Germany Budget: part 1

By Daniel | April 29, 2008

Boeing 747The dollar is at an all time low compared to the euro, about $1.56 USD equals $1.00 EUR, and we’re going to Germany for vacation. We’ve been planning the trip now for 6 months or so and are trying to keep costs low. We are planning it ourselves with the help of a Rick Steves’ guide book instead of a group trip. I’ll share our planned budget before the trip and after the trip I’ll post the actual budget. I will also list the ways in which we could have saved some money or things we will do different next time that will save money. The trip will be 10 days and 9 nights and cover three cities in Germany. It is my first time to Europe or anywhere besides Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. Why Germany? We both had a few years of German in high school and while it’s a little rusty, we figure it will help. There are also several places that are of interest to us. There are many ways we could save more right now such as staying in a hostel, where we eat, and how much we spend on sightseeing, but for our first trip we have chosen to spend a little more in some areas.

Here are a few other personal finance bloggers
that have some money saving tips for traveling.

Pre-trip Budget
Plane Tickets $2,429.38
Lodging $816
Food $1,000
