150 MPG! from Wayne Gerdes
By Daniel | May 9, 2008
In the article from Reader’s Digest, Ease on Down the Road: Fuel-Efficient Drivers, by Dennis Gaffney, we learn how Wayne Gerdes gets 150 mpg. Yes, he does get a little extreme in achieving this, but even getting half of that is still better than the majority of drivers. In this article, Dennis Gaffney visits Wayne and accompanies him to the Hybridfest MPG Challenge, which is a 20-mile race through the streets of the city.
Wayne Gerdes gets his great gas mileage without tinkering with the engine or using special fuels. By using several techniques such as driving on the right side of the right lane, coasting down hills with the engine off, accelerating slowly, removing heavy unnecessary items from the vehicle, and keeping the car maintained he increases his gas mileage.
Below is a list of the techniques used by Wayne from the article. I don’t recommend them to everyone due to the issue of safety, but as a general overview you can adjust your driving habits to increase your gas mileage and save money. The second list is full of general tips for increasing gas mileage and saving money on gas. Enjoy and be safe.
